4,500 support Susan G. Komen Walk
The Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk raised more than $290,000 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on May 18, helping fund breast cancer research and provide critical support services for patients and their families.
The annual 3.1-mile walk brought togetherĀ 4,500 supporters, survivors and familiesĀ to honor those impacted by the disease.Ā
āAs a newer member of the Komen team, I had a good idea of what to expect from the Walk, but nothing prepares you for the whole experience. The thousands of survivors, family members, supporters and local community members fill the event with hope, love and meaning,āĀ said Rachel Eichem, Susan G. Komen executive director, PA and DE.Ā āIt truly is an uplifting day that leaves you wishing you didn’t have to wait a whole year to be a part of something so special again. We are grateful to all of our sponsors, donors and fundraisers for helping us in our mission to wipe out breast cancer and make events like the More Than Pink Walk such a success.ā
The event featured entertainment by Ferko String Band and DJ Walter Smoothflicks while providing participants with the opportunity to come together and connect in meaningful ways by sharing their passion and stories and connecting with others, all while fundraising to support lifesaving programs and research.
The funds raised help breast cancer patients by supporting vital services such as the free Patient Care Hotline, which offers patient navigation, financial assistance and emotional support. These contributions also drive groundbreaking research focused on patient-centered protections that allow more lives to be saved. In fiscal year 2024, Susan G. Komenās Financial Assistance Program provided $383,250 in direct financial support to more than 670 people in Pennsylvania undergoing breast cancer treatment or living with metastatic breast cancer, delivering critical relief to those in need.
