Navy Yard investments a huge benefit
As a lifelong resident of South Philly, it gave me great satisfaction to read Mark Zimmaro’s report on all the new investments planned for the Philadelphia Navy Yard (“Investing in the Navy Yard,” May 21).
From Gov. Shapiro, especially, it seems as if this is a plan long in the making. The article lists our Navy Base as one of 11 sites across Pennsylvania that will receive millions in funding to develop our economy, create jobs and introduce new industries to our state. Our Navy Base alone will receive $30 million for these projects.
How impressive to read of expected changes that include increased manufacturing, expansion of life sciences and even thousands of apartments. Of course all this will be a huge benefit to Philadelphia, especially South Philly.
It is so encouraging to read reports like this that promise positive changes and renovations that will impact not only our economy but our living conditions. And it’s all about location. The Navy Yard has access to Philadelphia International Airport, major highways and the second-largest city on the East Coast. That makes it directly connected to talent, education, art, culture, science and entertainment.
So it is a thrill to learn of this wonderful plan in our great community newspaper from smart reporters like Mark Zimmaro. Well done!
