Free doughnuts June 6 at The Bakery

A beloved South Philly doughnut shop will celebrate its anniversary with giveaways and special deals on June 6.

Simply named “The Bakery,” the charming neighborhood cafe at 2300 S. 3rd St. in the Whitman neighborhood will give away free doughnuts to its first 50 customers on June 6 starting at 7 a.m., followed by $1 doughnuts until closing time at 2 p.m. The event coincides with National Donut Day and gives owner Rocco Weiss the perfect opportunity to give back to the community.

“It’s important for me to give back to this neighborhood, and every person who has shown us support over the past year – and what better way to say, ‘Thank you,’ than with free doughnuts?” Weiss said. “We hope to meet new faces in addition to our friends and neighbors on National Donut Day, and hope that from that day on, we can continue to build and strengthen our relationships with this community.”

Weiss, a Philadelphia native, opened the 16-seat corner storefront café, in April 2024, with the intention of reviving a setting of neighborhood staples. The building was previously Heirs Bakery and later Baker Brother’s Bakery, which closed five years ago. Weiss purchased all 15-20 recipes from the previous owner spanning doughnuts, cakes, cookies, cinnamon buns and more. He then worked diligently to perfect products and broaden the menu to incorporate an extensive selection of handcrafted coffee offerings. The Bakery is known for serving hand-crafted classic and new-aged doughnuts and seasonal coffee creations daily.
