FDR Park concert for a better world
The nonprofit Make The World Better (MTWB) is adding more talent to its annual benefit concert – the Make The World Better Concert Weekend at FDR Park, 15th Street and Pattison Avenue – taking place on Friday, July 25, and Sunday, July 27.
Hop Along will join Lucy Dacus and Jay Som on July 25.
On July 27, Annie DiRusso joins Remi Wolf and Magdalena Bay to round out a weekend of music, community and philanthropy.
“Philadelphia Parks and Recreation is dedicated to creating spaces where people can come together, enjoy the outdoors and make great memories,” said Susan Slawson, Commissioner, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. “We appreciate MTWB’s support of our parks and look forward to another great concert weekend that brings people together for an important cause while enjoying the beauty of FDR Park.”
The weekend series benefits MTWB’s mission of connecting people and inspiring stewardship through the revitalization of public spaces.
A co-production with The Bowery Presents, a concert promoter, the concert weekend will feature headlining performances by Lucy Dacus on Friday and Remi Wolf on Sunday.
MTWB was founded in 2013 by Connor Barwin during his first season playing for the Eagles.
In 2018, MTWB merged with Urban Roots, founded in 2008 by Jeffrey Tubbs.
MTWB believes that communities prosper when all people have access to high-quality public spaces that provide safe outlets for recreation, sports and arts-based activities.
The organization has completed four park revitalization projects in Philadelphia, including Ralph Brooks Park in Point Breeze, Smith Playground in West Passyunk and Vare Recreation Center in Grays Ferry.
“We’re so excited to add Hop Along and Annie DiRusso to what was already an incredible lineup,” Barwin said. “Hop Along played one of our first shows in 2016 and it’s so cool for them to be coming back together to make this weekend even more special. They know Philly, the work we do supporting communities at MTWB and how special it is to be doing all of this at FDR Park.”
The Bowery Presents’ mission is to bring the best artists to Philadelphia and other cities while providing an excellent concert experience for both fans and artists.
“Bowery is honored to partner with MTWB, the City of Philadelphia and Parks and Recreation to present a weekend of live music in FDR Park,” said Toni Bourgeois of The Bowery Presents. “Together, we’ll not only create a vibrant community experience, but also raise funds to help revitalize parks across the city, ensuring these spaces continue to thrive for generations to come.” ••
