Old Crow Medicine Show – At 7:30 p.m. at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. Old Crow Medicine Show makes its Penn Live Arts debut with a mix of traditional country, old-time string music, bluegrass and folk. Balcony Exhibit Opening: Across the Atlantic: Sloopers and the First Organized Emigration from Norway to America – From 5-7 p.m. At the American Swedish Historical Museum, enjoy traditional Norwegian recipes, a special kransekake from MANDEL bakery and the opportunity to meet Susan Satkowski, Honorary Consul General to Norway. Across the Atlantic explores the trans-Atlantic journey of the first organized group of Norwegian immigrants to sail to the United States. Traveling aboard a small sloop called the Restauration, the 1825 voyage took three months and challenged the strength and resolve of its passengers and crew from the very onset of the journey. The exhibit highlights the Sloopersâ motivations for leaving Norway, their experiences on the open sea and their eventual arrival in the United States. The exhibition event is free to the public, with light refreshments served.

Minecraft at Penn Museum – the museum is offering a kid-friendly guided tour that explains the real-life artifacts and cultures behind Minecraftâs most iconic elements. Participants ages 6-12 discover the real-world roots of their favorite game in this hands-on adventure that explores the vibrant cities of Mesoamerica, ancient tools from Africa and battle-ready armor worn by Greek warriors â all through the lens of Minecraft. At the end of the tour, kids get creative using the original âpixel artâ that goes back thousands of years â a mosaic with colorful paper âtiles.â Space is limited and advance registration is required. Tickets are $20 and includes all-day access to the Penn Museumâs galleries and exhibitions.

Roots Picnic – The two-day festival returns to its longtime home of The Mann in Fairmount Park. R&B singer DâAngelo will headline the festival alongside The Roots, marking the Black Messiah musicianâs return to Roots Picnic. Lenny Kravitz will take the stage to perform hits as well as his latest studio album Blue Electric Light. Meek Mill will also make his first appearance on the Roots Picnic stage.
